Upper Shawme Dam Rehabilitation Project | Sandwich, MA

Overview: Located in the Town of Sandwich, Massachusetts, Upper and Lower Shawme Lake is a popular fishing and recreation site for both locals and tourists. Separating the two lakes was the original Shawme Dam, constructed of earth and stone masonry. The dam was built in the late 1800’s and was in danger of failing. John Rocchio Corporation was awarded the contract to remove and replace the entire structure.

Work: The work consisted of the construction of a 2,000’ access road, removal of the existing earth dam and masonry spillway and construction of a new earth dam including a concrete spillway and fish ladder.
