Overview: The Newman Avenue bridge is located at the Massachusetts border in East Providence, RI. It carries Rt. 152 over the James V. Turner Reservoir. The bridge was originally constructed in 1934 and has seen numerous repairs through out the years. The bridge was deemed structurally deficient by RIDOT and designated for replacement.

Work: The work included removal and disposal of the existing bridge deck, parapet walls, end posts, approach slabs and partial removal of abutments. A deck consisting of pre-stressed concrete box beams supported on cast-in-place pier caps was utilized for the new superstructure. The pier caps were constructed approximately 15′ behind each abutment on steel H-piles driven to bedrock. The sidewalks and end posts were replaced in kind and the parapet was replaced with three bar rail.
